Opinionated Community Chat

To get the absolute most from chat, I recommend using dedicated software, rather than the Java applet. The Java chat applet is fine for getting in when on someone else's computer, or if disk space is an issue, but is not quite as reliable as the software.

If you have microsoft's Internet Explorer installed on your computer then you probably also have microsoft's Comic Chat installed too - sitting unused in c:\program files\ somewhere. Simply do a search for a file called CChat.exe and you can find it.

The best chat software (in my opinion) however is mIRC, which has more features and is easy to customise to your own tastes too. To help you to setup and use mIRC with the OpCom chat, I have provided the files you need here, and a specially made, easy-to-install script.

All you need to do is download and install mIRC itself (mirc581t.exe)

Then install the OpCom Script (opcom.exe) to the same folder where you installed mIRC.

After those two steps are complete, simply run mIRC and enter your name and details in the box provided when the program starts - hit the 'connect' button and you'll be in chat in seconds.

If you later want to learn more about mIRC and its virtually unlimited capability for customisation take a good look at the MIRC Workshop website.
